Escher's Colours

When I started thinking about the pattern that would then become Escher I had a green and white colour scheme in mind that would go by the name of Água Verde (green water), taken from the waterscape that inspired it: a leaf-covered pond at Parque de Serralves.

I projected Escher as a one-off print pattern for home textiles. It is both rustic and somewhat minimal, nodding to contemporary home décor styles in which greenery takes centre stage. However since I rarely develop single colourways and I went on to create another one, this time in warm hues and more in tune with autumnal days - which felt nice since I designed this pattern in October. I also love yellows but don’t tell anyone.

I named this ochre colourway Terra Nostra after a park in the S.Miguel island in the Azores that has characteristic yellow-toned thermal water ponds and pools and has been on my bucket list for way too long.

I must admit I’m quite torn between the two. Which colourway is your favourite?
